Frequently Asked Questions

How does WhatsApp Business API pricing work?
As of 2025, Meta charges per message (not per conversation). Prices vary by country and message category: Marketing, Utility, Authentication, and Service. Service messages (user-initiated, within a 24h customer service window) are free. Rates are set by Meta and may be marked up by Business Solution Providers (BSPs).
What is a BSP markup?
A Business Solution Provider (BSP) is an authorized Meta partner that connects businesses to the WhatsApp API. BSPs often charge a markup on top of Meta's base rates. This calculator lets you add a markup percentage to estimate your all-in cost.
What is the 24-hour service window?
When a user sends a message to a business on WhatsApp, a 24-hour "customer service window" opens. During this window, service category messages are free. Utility messages sent within this window may also be free (toggle to check). After the window closes, businesses must use templates and pay per message.
What is the 72h free entry point window?
If a user initiates a conversation via a Click-to-WhatsApp ad or a WhatsApp-enabled Page button, a 72-hour free messaging window opens. During this window, marketing messages to that user may be free. Enable the toggle to apply this logic to your cost estimate.
